Brake fluid is hydroscopic, meaning it has a tendency to absorb moisture. As the fluid gets older the more moisture is absorbed and the boiling point of the fluid is reduced.

It is not a big job to replace the brake fluid and a typical cost to pressure bleed the system is £41.00 including VAT.
